Boat Streams and Dreams
“Boats, Streams, and Dreams” is a compelling, exciting, memorable training experience for the following reasons:
- It incorporates the latest research on the human brain, learning, and brain-compatible environments.
- It takes participants from something they already “know” to an understanding of that knowledge, then to wisdom generated through application.
- The six dimensions of the program can be put into practice immediately. It engages the emotions, thus generating long-term learning.
“Boats, Streams, and Dreams” is based on the children’s song, “Row, Row, Row Your Boat”. Virtually every person in every audience is familiar with the song, thus ensuring a common knowledge base from which to build.
The six dimensions presented in the song are as follows:
- “Row, Row, Row”: This is the WHAT dimension. It answers the question, “What do I (or we) have to do to become more successful?” The answer is, “Work, Work, Work”. This dimension highlights the power of productive directionality over time, rather than simply being ‘busy’.
- “Your Boat”. This is the WHO dimension. It answers the question, “Who is responsible and accountable for my (or our) results?” The answer is; it’s your boat. You’re the Captain. The dimension brings into focus the importance of assuming responsibility and accountability for everything we do – or don’t do. People who assume responsibility and accountability for their actions generate power.
- “Gently”. This is the HOW dimension. It answers the question, “How do I go about my (or our) interactions with myself, others, and the world around me?” The answer is, gently. This dimension clarifies the absolute necessity of behaving with gentility and civility in all we do. This becomes a driving value in one’s life. It takes strength to be gentle. Weakness usually produces violence.
- “Down the Stream”. This is the WHERE dimension. It answers the question, “Where is my life (our business Or organization) going?” The answer, of course, is down The stream. Our yesterdays are upstream. Our todays are where we currently (pun intended!) are. All of our tomorrows, our dreams, our goals, and our opportunities are ahead of us – downstream.
- “Merrily, Merrily, Merrily, Merrily”. This is another HOW dimension question. It asks, “How is my (our) attitude? How is the attitude we bring with us to our work, our interactions with others, and our interactions with ourselves? Think about this: ‘Merrily” is the only word in the song that’s repeated four times. Why? Because one’s attitude is a vital prerequisite for success! If aspects of your life are not going smoothly downstream, examine the attitude you’re taking on the voyage. Keep in mind that we give ourselves the attitudes we have, we’re responsible for them, and only we can change them.
- “Life is but a Dream”. The most important question is saved for the last phrase – WHY. “Why do I need to Row, row, row? Why does it have to be my boat? Why must I be gentle? Why must I go down the stream? Why is it important to be merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily? The answer is our lives are based on our dreams. Dreams are precursors to our goals, our aspirations, our expectations, and our hopes. When you have dreams you produce hope.
“Boats, Streams, and Dreams” identifies six dimensions which are enormously important for a successful life, a successful business, a successful relationship, or a successful organization. Each of these needs to be practiced on a daily basis. Doing so dramatically increases the depth of our lives. Whenever you’re feeling tired, discouraged, afraid, or just down on yourself, start humming the song. The meaning of each part will come into your consciousness. You’ll be amazed what happens.
